Description

Volume 0 of The Earth Stories Collection, a global bank of cultural seeds aimed to transform our civilisation.

There are old myths that can help us overcome the serious crisis of civilisation in which we are immersed. They are myths from distant parts of our world that speak of a grave future crisis and how we might solve it. A book aimed not only at educators, storytellers and social mobilisers, but also at activists, youth groups and social movements. The Earth Stories Collection is a repository of myths, legends, fables and folktales from diverse cultures around the planet which are capable of transmitting a complex-systems worldview and of illustrating the principles and values of the Earth Charter.

The Earth Stories Collection is a cultural seed bank, a base of global educational resources for the construction (or reconstruction) of a deeply sustainable global society, based on social and economic justice, and values of peace and democracy. It is an initiative launched by The Avalon Project – Initiative for a Culture of Peace, in collaboration with the Secretariat of Earth Charter International and the Scottish International Storytelling Festival.

In Volume 0 of this Collection a presentation of the research that led to this project was made. In addition, 45 stories from around the world were offered as a first installment. In this Volume 1, we present 30 more stories and new research on what the author calls ‘The Myths of the Future’.
