(at design stage)
By the end of 2023, we plan to launch our educational programme, consisting of talks, workshops, seminars, courses (online and face-to-face) and nature retreats aimed at transformative learning, following the lines expressed in
- Deep Ecology, by the Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess
- Gaia Theory, by James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis
- and Ethics of Care, by Carol Gilligan
All of this is based on the fundamental ethical framework of the Earth Charter, recognised and endorsed by UNESCO in 2003.
In addition to the face-to-face and online educational activities, which we will detail here when we launch our programme, you will also be able to take advantage of online resources in the form of stable courses on the Moodle platform, which you can follow at your own pace at any time you wish.
In addition to our educational qualifications (see Who We Are), and currently being part of the faculty of Earth Charter International at the United Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica, we at Midnight Sun have more than 40 years of experience giving talks, lectures, workshops, seminars for all kinds of entities and organisations, presentations and courses at universities, and organising countless educational events, nature retreats and international conferences, in Spanish and English, both in Spain and in the United States, both in Spain and in the United States, Great Britain, Portugal, Sweden, Netherlands, Venezuela, Mexico and Costa Rica.
The Earth Stories Collection
However, our greatest educational achievement, in this case from our educational and pacifist NGO, Avalon Project – Initiative for a Culture of Peace, is The Earth Stories Collection, a global bank of myths, legends and folktales from all over the planet specifically selected to convey a systemic, ecocentric and organicist worldview, capable of illustrating the principles of the Earth Charter.
Building on the foundation of Grian Cutanda‘s PhD research, The Earth Stories Collection has become an educational project with global impact, involving people of all races and continents, making the stories in the Collection an essential part of all Avalon and Midnight Sun’s educational programmes.
The Earth Stories Collection now has in its repository 111 myths, legends and folktales from around the world, which you can download directly from the website, or purchase, along with essays relating to the research and implementation of the stories, in the three volumes we have published so far under the imprint of the Collection, which you can find in our Shop (click on the button below).
